Nationally recognized crisis coach and CNN Hero Scott H Silverman premiered his new podcast series Building Heroes.
“On November 10, 1984, I wanted to end my own life,” shares Scott H Silverman. “[It was] the only way I was going to be able to move forward — and there was no path forward, I felt.”
Building Heroes offers an unfiltered look at Silverman’s personal journey and the frontline realities of addiction, rehabilitation, and second-chance advocacy.
The podcast takes the viewers “behind the scenes” into Scott’s background to understand how such a low point could lead to over 40 years of recovery and advocacy, and so many milestones:
- Becoming a CNN Hero
- Getting honored with “Scott Silverman Day” by the City of San Diego in 2008
- Founding San Diego’s leading outpatient drug rehabilitation program Confidential Recovery
- Starting non-profit veteran advocacy group Veterans Navigation Center in 2023
- Becoming the recipient of a dedicated Wikipedia Page
- Writing multiple books: Tell Me No, I Dare You, The Opioid Epidemic, and You’re Not God — That Job Is Taken
Silverman’s latest book, You’re Not God — That Job Is Taken, reinforces the same hard-earned message at the heart of Building Heroes: lasting recovery begins with humility, accountability, and the courage to let go of control. Drawing on decades of frontline experience, the book offers direct, practical insight for individuals and families navigating addiction, crisis, and the path to personal responsibility. This book is a must-read not only for those facing addiction, but for anyone seeking clarity, accountability, and personal growth.
